This program is designed for anyone in the nursing field who works in a hospital and needs to break the language barrier in order to better care for Spanish-speaking patients. Spanish for Hospital Nurses will allow nurses to use Spanish successfully to perform routine duties at the bedside, in the ER, in ICU, anywhere Spanish is needed in the hospital.
LEARNING OBJECTIVES
Upon completion of this course, you will be able to utilize Spanish in order to do the following:
Greet patients and employ basic social and courtesy phrases
Use communication strategies to negotiate a mutual level of understanding
Identify yourself and others
Express and recognize numbers 0-1000
Provide basic body and positioning commands for the patient
Calm and reassure patients
Conduct room check-in procedures
Complete an initial patient assessment
Conduct routine in-bed procedures
Conduct routine treatment procedures
Help bathe and cleanse patients
Aid in patient transport
Explain and administer medicines and injections
Attend to patient food and drink issues
Attend to general patient needs and comfort
You will also gain a basic understanding of various differences between U.S. and Latino cultures that are important to know in order to avoid possible misunderstandings.
